John H. Kinckle, Sr. (1810-1889) was a valued employee of Lynchburg's Union Depot, responsible for baggage handling. He earned great trust and respect for his efficiency and diligence in his work. Kinckle's son, John, Jr., was one of the first two African-American lawyers in Lynchburg, and his grandson, Eugene Kinckle Jones, was the first Executive Secretary of the National Urban League.
