Squire Higginbotham (1820-1882) and later McGustavus Higginbotham (1868-1934) were undertakers who operated the first African-American funeral home in Lynchburg. Their business, Strange and Higginbotham, at 909 Fifth Street was the predecessor of Community Funeral Home. A large gravestone marks the Higginbotham family plot.
