In the Earley Memorial Shrub Garden are two relics from buildings important to Lynchburg's African-American history. There is the finial from the steeple of the Eighth Street Baptist Church, as well as the base of a column from the entrance of the all-black Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, which was demolished in 1979.
