The Candlelight Tours, held each October, are a consistently sold-out program of living history featuring historical characters who are buried at the Cemetery or have a connection to the 215-year-old Cemetery. The chosen Tour Director will be a creative, well-organized, experienced director of outdoor theater, with knowledge of local and national history. The Director will be responsible for hiring and managing several key positions (including costume designer, production manager, actors, etc.) to run the tour production (per job description below). Other requirements are: positive outlook, good coaching abilities, strong team player, dedicated to producing an outstanding tour productions. DESCRIPTION:
Oversees the Old City Cemetery Candlelight Tour Production working with office and production staff to ensure delivery of annual October production.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in outdoor theater preferred.
- Experience in directing or acting preferred.
- Interest & knowledge of local, state & national history preferred.
- Positive outlook & good coaching abilities.
- Enthusiasm for sharing our local history with our community and beyond.
- College degree in theater or related field required.
2021 COMMITMENT:
APRIL- JUNE: Pre- production
JULY – SEPTEMBER: Auditions, casting, rehearsals.
OCTOBER: Tech week: October 2th – 6th
Performance nights: 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21,22, 23, 24 (24th is Sunday Matinee & Rain Date)
NOVEMBER: Post – Mortem
RESPONSIBILITY:
Oversees entire production including working with key staff for specific project needs including pre-project planning, assist with production budget management, oversees production meetings, casting, rehearsals, production elements, volunteer collaboration and other administrative duties. Oversees and manages Production Manager, Costume Designer, Box Office Manager and Front Room Manager.
APRIL- JUNE:
Responsibility:
- Collaborates with OCC Executive Director regarding production budget.
- Responsible for ensuring the hiring of production staff including Costume Designer, Costume Assistant, Production Manager, Technical Assistant, Box Office Manager, Front Room Manager.
- In collaboration with Research Coordinator provides feedback during script editing phase.
- Once hired connect Production Manager with Project Manager.
- Maintain clear communication with Project Manager and other OCC staff as needed.
JULY – SEPTEMBER
Responsibility:
- Conducts actor auditions and responsible for ensuring the complete casting of annual production.
- Ensures actors have completed scripts and tools needed in a timely manner.
- Schedules and conducts individual and group rehearsals.
- Schedule Production meetings with production staff/crew
- Ensures that Production Manager, Costume Designer and Box Office Manager have proper tools and resources needed.
- Communicate with OCC staff as needed to ensure program/playbill information is provided in a timely manner.
- In collaboration with production manager and volunteers ensures that luminary/technical items are prepared for tech week and performances.
- Maintain clear communication with Project Manager and other OCC staff as needed.
OCTOBER
Responsibility:
- In collaboration with production manager and volunteers ensures that luminary/technical items are prepared for tech week and performances.
- Executes tech week rehearsals.
- Commits to being present at each performance night to oversee production in collaboration with Production Manager.
- Maintain clear communication with Project Manager and other OCC staff as needed.
NOVEMBER
Responsibility:
- Conducts post-production debrief meetings with Production staff members and OCC staff members
- Reviews patron feedback and survey results.
- Sends a post-production survey to production actors.
- Reviews final overall production feedback with OCC Executive Director.
Pay range for this contract position: $1,300 – $1,600
