As we no longer permit new memorial stones or grave markers on the grounds, there are a number of ways to honor your loved one here at Old City Cemetery.

  1. Memorial Trees, Shrubs & Antique Roses – Plantings are a lovely way to honor the memory of a passed loved one. Old City Cemetery is a Level II Certified Arboretum, and a 27-acre public garden, hosting the largest public collection of antique roses in the region. A permanent plaque will be installed at the site of the planting that includes the name of the deceased, as well as botanical information and a brief memorial write-up, if the family so desires. Long-term care and maintenance of the plant is provided by our dedicated staff, and selection of the plant and it’s location may be at the discretion of the Southern Memorial Association, in accordance with it’s long-term garden plans and historically appropriate varieties.
