Board of Directors Corner
Despite the lure of the “lazy days of summer,” members of the SMA Board of Directors diligently and enthusiastically supported Old City Cemetery events held in June, July and August. We gathered on the grounds near the Cemetery Center with our volunteers for a picnic (pictured above) and offered brief speeches that expressed our thanks for their many hours of service during the past twelve months. With great pleasure we greeted the 1,000 plus people who attended one of the performances of Endstation’s excellent production of Our Town; we joined cemetery visitors taking the “Summer Saturdays” tours; and we delighted in being a part of an audience of 60 enjoying the music performed by the Cox Family.
Governance occupies a majority of our volunteer time, and we fulfill most of these responsibilities through committee work. In that capacity the following committees have met since our July board meeting and have set goals for the coming twelve months: the governance and nominating committee, executive committee, ad hoc building committee, facilities and operations committee, and finance committee. More detailed plans with a strategic focus will be developed as a part of our strategic planning retreat scheduled for September 16.
