Old City Cemetery is looking for new volunteers! We need tour guides who like to share their love of history with others and gardeners who enjoy working outdoors to create beautiful landscapes. No experience is required, but potential Cemetery volunteers should have a love of history, historic preservation, or horticulture, and enjoy working with the public.
Tour guides are instructed on general OCC history, with options to specialize in one or more themed tours (e.g., “Pest House” or “Antique Roses”).
General gardening is an organized activity with a group of volunteers every Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Depending on the needs of the week, these “gravegardeners” accompany staff to different project locations.
To meet our staff and learn more about volunteering, please come to one of our two orientations:
Friday, February 24, 9:00–10:00 a.m.
Saturday, February 25, 9:00–10:00 am.
Please contact Karen Bracco at (434) 847-1465 or karen@gravegarden.org for further information. To receive a volunteer application please go online to our website and under the “Visit” tab, click on the “Volunteer Application” to print the application form.
