Cemetery Center houses a museum of American mourning customs and artifacts, burial records in the office of the Southern Memorial Association, a gift shop, and public handicapped-accessible restrooms.  The Lee Reading Room, Taylor Conservatory, and Christian Vault are on the lower level.

Fall Plant Sharing

Staff and Cemetery volunteers will be on hand to supervise a plant sharing opportunity on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  For $15 per person, the public is invited to sign up for a morning of "digging" in various plant beds and taking home some of the perennials on the grounds. Author Charles E. Driscoll, M.D., will be signing copies of his book Ring The Fire Bell! -  The Incredible Story of an Iowa Civil War Medical Center. This book tells the stories of a small  quiet riverside town's medical community in Keokuk, Iowa, that became a major Union hospital town and convalescence center. The fire bell was rung to announce the arrival of injured soldiers, who had been transported up the Mississippi from the horrors of the Civil War battlefield. Come meet the author in his Union Army Surgeon…
