The spring and summer seasons will be here soon and the Cemetery needs volunteers to help with tours and the appearance! No experience is required, but potential volunteers should have a love of history, historic preservation, or horticulture, and enjoy working with the public.
The Cemetery needs volunteers who are able to share their time and talents as tour guides. Whether it is a general tour of the grounds, specializing in one particular area of the Cemetery, or conducting horticulture tours; we need a variety of guides.
Gravegardening is our other main volunteer need. It is a seasonal activity, primarily on Wednesdays, helping staff with outdoor gardening activities.
To become a new volunteer at Old City Cemetery, you must complete orientation and a training program to prepare you for your position.
New Volunteers must attend orientation on one of the following days:
February 26: 9-10 a.m.
February 27: 9-10 a.m.
Old City Cemetery is a Virginia Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the most visited historic site in Lynchburg with over 30,000 visitors each year.
